AUM or OM holds major significance in Hinduism. This symbol is a sacred syllable that symbolizes Brahman, the impersonal Absolute of Hinduism - omnipotent, omnipresent, and the source of all manifest existence. Brahman, being incomprehensible in itself, necessitates a symbol to aid in understanding the Unknowable. Therefore, Om represents both the unmanifest (nirguna) and manifest (saguna) aspects of God, hence its designation as pranava, signifying its presence within life and breath.
